Doctors at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital declares strike

Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have decided to embark on a strike starting Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in response to accommodation challenges they are facing.

The strike was prompted by the issuance of eviction notices to over 20 doctors, compelling them to vacate their current residences.

After an emergency meeting, the doctors unanimously agreed to go on strike to support their affected colleagues.

According to the leadership of the doctors’ association, their members are being forced out of their bungalows, which have allegedly been sold to private developers.

The strike, endorsed by the Ghana Medical Association, will only impact new admissions, as all doctors have agreed to adhere to the directive issued by the association.

Reports indicate that the doctors received a one-week ultimatum from the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council to vacate their current accommodations.

Dr. Paa Kwasi Baidoo, the Ashanti Regional President of the Ghana Medical Association, expressed disappointment regarding the sudden displacement of hospital staff from their homes. He highlighted the agreement that was made with the Manhyia Palace for new accommodations before the land was handed over, but alleged that this agreement has been disregarded.
