Dominic Pezzola is an American member of the Proud Boys who took part in the January 6th United States Capitol attack, a violent attack on the United States Capitol. On January 6, 2021, he stole a police riot shield and used it to break a Capitol window, becoming the first rioter to infiltrate the building.
Additionally, as indicted on federal charges in 2021, he was tried with Proud Boys commander Enrique Tarrio and top lieutenants Ethan Nordean, Joseph Biggs, and Zachary Rehl in 2023. Pezzola was convicted of obstructing a congressional proceeding, assaulting a police officer, and other felonies in May 2023, after a five-month jury trial.
He was acquitted of the most serious allegation, seditious conspiracy (of which all of his co-defendants were convicted). Other accusations against Pezzola, including conspiracy to impede the counting of electoral votes, were deadlocked by the jury. Prosecutors demanded a sentence of 20 years in prison for Pezzola, who used a stolen police shield to carry out the first Capitol invasion. On September 1, 2023, Pezzola was sentenced to ten years in jail.
