DVLA to impound vehicles and prohibit drivers without valid licenses on the road

Starting from May 1st, 2023, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will begin impounding vehicles belonging to drivers who commit certain license infractions while on the road. The move is in line with Road Traffic Regulations 47, 158 of L1 2180 of 2012.

Drivers who will be affected by this new regulation include those who drive without an original license, those who have no license at all, those with expired licenses, those with photocopied licenses, those with fake licenses, and those who use the wrong class of license.

According to the DVLA, there will be no exemptions for any of these infractions except for vehicles with police, prisons, fire, military, and immigration registered number plates. The aim of this new regulation is to promote safety on the road and ensure that only qualified and licensed drivers operate vehicles.

The DVLA has advised all road users to take note of this cautionary measure to avoid embarrassment and inconvenience.

This new regulation will be strictly enforced, and drivers who flout the rules will have their vehicles impounded. It is, therefore, essential that all drivers ensure that they have valid licenses and that they comply with all the regulations stipulated by the DVLA.
