EC exhibition: Names of voters erased from new voter’s register

Some voters across the country have expressed worry and displeasure as their names were missing on the new voter’s register compiled by the Electoral Commission of Ghana for the December 2020 polls.
The voters register anomalies were identified across some exhibition centres in the country as the Electoral Commission commenced its eight (8) days exhibition exercise on Friday, 18th September, 2020.

According to reports, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the early hours of day one exhibition exercise has made a claim that, some names were missing from the current EC’s voter rolls. Speaking to some NDC party leadership in the New Juabeng South, they said, “This has become evident because our vigilant executives decided to cross check their daily printouts from the July registration with the new register and are raising hell at the polling stations with the EC.”
The New Juabeng South NDC is therefore calling on all constituencies, to, as a matter of urgency, do the cross checking with their printouts, especially in the strongholds of the party. In a statement, they have also asked the counterparts in other constituencies across the country to immediately cross check if the Electoral Commission haven’t increased numbers at the strongholds of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Though, we cannot tell the reasons for such anomalies, reports gathered from the exhibition centres show that, some voters who turned up at the centres for the verification couldn’t find their names on the new voter’s register.
