UEW controversial honorary doctorate; Prof. Avea Nsoh writes to Prof. Mike Gabo Oquaye

Professor Avea Nsoh, at the University of Education, Winneba in the Central region of Ghana has written what he describes as a personal note to the Rt. Honourable Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, Professor Mike Gabo Oquaye refreshing happenings in the university community and beyond.

In the personal note PART 1, Professor Avea Nsoh swiftly called on the Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Gabo Oquaye to take into account the demise of some prominent lecturers and staff of the university including transfer of others before responding to any matter brought before him in order not to left any scars on his visit.

“Sir, before you think of accepting the controversial honorary doctorate, let me walk you through the trail that your host, the Rt. Rev. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni left behind. It is important to first and foremost alert you so that if you indeed eventually decide to accept the award against good reason and the forests of protest including from your own party faithfuls in the Effutu Municipality and in the University, you would have had adequate information to take that decision and blame yourself if there is a backlash.” He noted.

“As a human rights advocate and the Speaker of our very respected Parliament, you may wish to request investigations into the following disturbing issues at the University before you visit the most troubled university in Ghana today. Ironically, the troubled university is led by a reverend minister of the Catholic church, the oldest and largest church in Ghana.”

Bringing to the attention of the Professor Mike Gabo Oquaye, he indicated that, before Prof. Oquaye think of accepting the controversial honorary doctorate, he need to investigate the following;

1. What caused the deaths of the following dedicated staff:

a. Mr. Emmanuel Kuturglo, a very hard working administrative staff who was transferred to the Ajumako Campus and then within one was again transferred to the Mampong campus. He met his premature death whilst returning to Mampong after visiting his family whom he could not go with because of the punitive nature of the transfer.

b. Mr. Henry Kpodo: You also may wish to find out how the secretary to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke suddenly died.

c. Mr. Samuel Kwedoe Okai: Then, you will also want to know how a very qualified former Ag. Director of Security with over 10 years of service in the Ghana Armed Forces, a master’s degree in security and two years as Head of University of Education, Winneba security did not only lose his position to another person but lost his precious life soon after. Can you imagine how the families of these staff, I mean their wives and children will feel about you on that day receiving a blood-tainted doctorate?

2. However, these are not all you will want to know. Your colleague reverend minister, highly dedicated to the TRINITY, used and dumped all his closest colleagues including your colleague in Parliament who helped him to ascend illegally to Vice-Chancellor position. In the next few weeks whilst you try to choose between the devil and Jesus, I will meander you through what I refer to as the “Victims of Karma”. However, in this particular expose I only list a few of the victims with very brief comments.

a. Professor Emmanuel Nicholas Abakah: the immediate past UEW Council Chair who single handedly led Council to break all statutory barriers to move him from a retired Pro-ViCe-Chancellor to an Ag. Vice-Chancellor and finally to the Vice-Chancellor. Eventually, the Professor did not only lose his position as Council Chair but had head-on collision with your host. He is now licking his wounds at his Cape Coast residence. You may wish to pay him a visit.

b. Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin: the Honourable Member of Parliament for Effutu, your colleague in Parliament whom he misled with sweet talk and fake documentation to provide him the political, indigene and the legal backing to ensure he was Vice-Chancellor. Your host did not only part ways with him (Hon. Afenyo-Markin) but put up a candidate against him. He also let lose some of our very junior colleagues to embarrass him and assassinate his character in social media. I know you are aware that he is in court with some of them. All my party members including the TEIN in UEW have vowed not to back his candidate, Mr Kofi Annan until he (the candidate, Mr Annan) publicly denounces him (your host). I know you are aware that your colleague is now fighting tooth and nail with all dismissed staff to correct whatever mistake he made. Interestingly, the Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, your other colleague is in white attire ready to celebrate mediocrity and the illegality that he has sustained in the last three years. Sir, Hon. Afenyo-Markins is a whisker away, right in front of you on the floor of Parliament, please sir, invite him to your office.; give him a minute audience.

c. Bruno Bajuaose Chirani: He was the immediate past Ag. Finance office. Your host got him out as Ag. Finance Office and posted him to a Centre that he hardly sets eyes on vouchers. That is where we call “Siberia” in the University of Education, Winneba. Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah and Mr. Narh Akrono, your country woman and man have similarly been dumped there. Please, blood is thicker than water, please, speak with them. Mr. Bruno reported your host to his Arch Bishop, His Lordship Palmer-Buckle, his superior who unfortunately totally endorses his (your host) activities. So please, do not ask the Arch Bishop Palmer-Buckle and his Catholic Bishops Conference, he will not tell you the truth. The Catholic leadership has been silent on the abuse of human rights by their own, and yet preach Jesus Christ and the TRINITY. We may need to get back to the DARK ages and understand why the Church pretends all is well. As for us in UEW, “Heaven knows where we are going…”. Bruno currently has a number of pending court of cases against your host and the university at the Winneba High Court. He was once one of his WARRIORS when the dream of being a VC at all cost was fully activated.

d. Mr. Kingsley Amoako, the Senior Staff Association Chair and a staunch member of your party has been transferred from the Winneba campus to far away Mampong campus. All his allowances have been clipped. Mr. Amoako was a loyal foot soldier when Prof. Afful-Broni triggered the coup that will make him achieve his longtime dream of becoming the first Catholic priest to head a public University. He is at the Winneba High court fighting injustices perpetrated against him by your host. Please, give him a “Speakerly” call. He will appreciate it and you will never forget.

e. Prof. Yaw Ameyaw was a close ally and headed some of his kangaroo committees that led to the dismissal of some staff. He is the immediate past Director of Quality Assurance directorate. Your host literally prevented him from re-applying to the position. He has joined the “sakora Professors’ Club” led by its longtime members such as Prof. Professor Asiedu-Addo and Professor Armah. You need to listen to Prof. Yaw particularly his encounter with host at the his office.

f. Professor Christopher Okpoti Adjei, your kinsman is another excellent relation gone bath. He was haunted out of office by your host and replaced by his very far junior colleague as Dean. Please, give him audience, please, please, Your Honour.

g. Prof. Yaw Sekyi-Baidoo: he was your host’s linguist until he started asking him the right and tough questions and pleading with him to mend his ways. But your host is not the man you advise. Yaw is a strong member of your party. Please, meet him. Yaw nearly got a sack recently when he wrote a scathing letter against host’s debilitating actions to the Council chair. He actually used Prof. Sekyi-Baidoo’s mentee and longtime friend to go after him. That is a strategy he has used successfully in the last three years as Vice-Chancellor: use your own friends and close colleagues to target and destroy you. So far he has been very very successful.

h. Prof. Kagya Agyemang, Principal of the College of Agriculture at Mampong. When the Rev Fr. Afful-Broni needed a credible person to appoint to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor position (it was also illegal though) at a time when most people were hesitant to work with him, the soft spoken Professor put his credibility on the line to work with him. We are told he was tired and ill that is why he was replaced by Prof. Ruby Hansen. Your Rev Professor has on a number of occasions publicly insulted him. Dear Speaker, please, just pay him a visit. Only ensure that no one reports the meeting to your host otherwise, in the next meeting, he will be in serious trouble again if he does not call him earlier.

i. Mr. Ebenezer Bonzie and Dennis Afriyie Marfo are finance staff. They did all the dirty work for him to get him to his destination. They soon realized they had been deceived, so they stood up to him. They are now cursing their gods for ever knowing the man of God. They have fought back to office after securing judgement from the Winneba High court. In spite of the court’s directives, come and see where he has placed them.

These are but just a few of those loyal and faithful partners he left on the wayside when they began to question his status as Vice-Chancellor and his actions that were unbecoming of a priest and an academic.

3. Then, you have the careers and families of those dismissed illegally wailing for justice from persons of your status and background. Most of these dismissed staff have stayed in the courts (where you are used to) to seek justice with resources that they do not have. How will such people feel when they see you on national TV or hear you on National radio taking an award from their oppressor? How will their wives/husbands and children who have little or nothing to feed, think of you and other persons of similar stature? Can their children in particular be inspired by your office and similar positions?
