The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected the power for some customers in the Volta Region due to accumulated debts.
A few days ago, the company announced that it will close its offices to undertake a nationwide revenue mobilization exercise.
ECG said they are embarking on retrieving a total debt of GH¢5.7 Billion nationwide.
In addition, they stated that Volta Region alone is owing the State GH219 Million out of the total amount of debt stated above.ECG after their publication deployed their officials to both Volta and Oti Region to check and disconnect customers who are owing the company.
Today, 20th March 2023, a team of officials visited Abutia Stone Quarry, KFC, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho Technical University (formerly known as Ho Poly), Volta Serene among others, and discovered that the above-mentioned institutions are owing ECG lump sum of money as electricity bills for months.
However, the officials acted by the command given to them. They disconnected both Public and Private establishments that are owing the State.

- KFC -GH¢68,000.00
- GRA office – GH¢55,000.00
- CEPS Training Academy – GH¢80,000.00
- Ho Technical University (HTU) -GH¢402,000.00
- UHAS -GH¢1,400,000.00 (GH¢1.4 Million)
Ho Technical University (HTU) cleared GH¢200,000.00 from the quoted figure as accumulated debt after long hours of discussion.
However, ECG gave them an ultimatum to pay the rest. They agreed on paying the arrears by the end of March this year, 2023.
UHAS also cleared part of its debt. They paid 1 Million out of the GH¢1,400,000.00 they owe ECG and promised to clear the rest of the arrears by the end of the following week.
Next in the Ho Municipality is Ho Teaching Hospital, NIA office, among others to retrieve about GH¢5,000,000.00 (GH¢5 Million)
Customers are urged to clear their bills at any Bank /or via Mobile Money (MoMo) to avoid disconnection.

- All customers should dial *226# on their smart device and follow the prompt for payment.
- Also, they can download the ECG PowerApp and make the same payment there.
