ECG to begin operation ‘No Free Consumption’ today

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) announced the commencement of operation ‘No Free Consumption’.
Starting from Thursday, February 1, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will be disconnecting power supply to customers and users who have been consuming electricity without making payments.
This operation, named ‘No Free Consumption,’ will involve ECG teams in the field updating customer details, such as phone numbers and GPS addresses, collecting outstanding arrears, and disconnecting those who have not made payments.
The exercise, which commences today, is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, February 15, 2024.
Laila Abubakar, the External Relations Officer of ECG, issued a warning that customers found guilty of consuming electricity without paying will be subject to prosecution.

“We have identified the locations where these non-paying customers are located. Over the next two weeks, we will target these individuals who are using electricity without making any payments to us.
“We encountered these individuals last year and attempted to regularize their situation, but they have reverted to their previous practices. We now have a new prosecution directorate that will take action against companies and individuals who refuse to adhere to the principles of using and paying for electricity. In the upcoming 12 months, various revenue mobilization initiatives will be implemented,” she stated.
