Electoral Commission of Ghana releases programme of activities for 2023 district level elections

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has unveiled its comprehensive programme of activities for the upcoming 2023 District Level Elections (DLE).

The schedule outlines the key dates and activities leading up to the election day, ensuring a transparent and organized electoral process. It is important to note that these dates are subject to change based on the circumstances at the time.

The programme starts with the crucial task of voter registration, which is scheduled to take place from August 28 to October 2, 2023. During this period, eligible voters will have the opportunity to register, ensuring their participation in the DLE.

The Electoral Commission has planned extensive publicity campaigns to raise awareness about the registration exercise and encourage maximum voter turnout.

Following the registration, the District Registration Review Committees (DRRC) will be briefed and sworn in on September 12, 2023. This step is crucial in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the voter registration process.

Additionally, the transfer of votes and the commencement of the replacement of lost Voters ID cards will take place on September 26 and October 3, 2023, respectively.

The next phase of the electoral process focuses on the exhibition of the voters’ register. From October 3 to October 9, 2023, the Electoral Commission will initiate a publicity campaign to inform the public about the exhibition exercise.

This will be followed by the actual exhibition of the voters’ register, which will take place from October 18 to October 31, 2023. During this period, voters will have the opportunity to verify their information and report any discrepancies.

In preparation for the District Level Elections, stakeholder engagements at the national, regional, and district levels will be conducted from November 4 to November 8, 2023.

These engagements will involve women, civil society organizations (CSOs), and persons with disabilities (PWDs), ensuring their active participation in the electoral process. On November 13, 2023, the appointment and briefing of revising officers will take place, further solidifying the preparations for the elections.

The nominations of candidates for the District Assembly and Unit Committee elections are scheduled to occur on November 14 and November 16-17, 2023, respectively. The Electoral Commission will release press statements to inform the public about the nomination process.

Publicity on the District Level Elections will be conducted from October 1 to October 19, 2023, followed by the posting of the Notice of Poll on November 29 to December 4, 2023.

Finally, election day is set to take place on December 19, 2023. This is when the citizens will exercise their right to vote and select their representatives at the district level. In the event of any ties in the election results, a breaking of ties for the District Level Elections will be conducted on December 27-28, 2023.
