Fijai PTA Defends Interdicted Headmaster, Claims Innocence of Allegations

The Parents Association (PA) of Fijai Senior High School has come out to defend the interdicted Headmaster, Kenneth Agbomadze, against allegations of illegal fee collection by the Ghana Education Service (GES). Although the Service cited illegal fee collection as the reason for his interdiction, reports indicate that the headmaster was part of a meeting where the PTA agreed to provide financial assistance to the school, including Intervention fees of GH¢100 for two semesters, PTA dues of GH¢40 for two semesters, and Special Support Levy of GH¢150 for two semesters.

The PTA Chairman, Rev. Father Gabriel Sampson, stated that the headmaster is innocent of the allegations, as he was not involved in any illegal collection of fees. He added that the headmaster is aware of all decisions taken by the PTA, which is the norm in every senior high school. An emergency meeting of parents is being organized to determine the way forward.

The fate of the headmaster will be decided after the committee conducting the investigations conclude their work.

“I was not present at the meeting that has led to this issue, but I am taking steps to gather all the facts. I have called for an emergency meeting to determine the next course of action. However, it is worth noting that during our meetings as parents, the headmaster provides us with situational reports of the school. Prior to our meetings, we ask him if there are any issues or challenges in the school that we can discuss. Thus, we are unclear about what is happening.”

Isaac Cobbina, the PTA Chairman for the Western Region, suspects that there may be a plot to sacrifice the headmaster, given that the reasons provided for his interdiction appear to lack grounds.

“I suspect that there may be other underlying reasons for his interdiction, or perhaps he is being unfairly targeted because the reasons given do not justify his punishment. If he is being interdicted simply because he was part of a meeting, then all headmasters in Ghana should face the same fate. Headmasters are always present at our meetings, and it is a common practice. Some people are not willing to address the real issues affecting the Free Senior High School Policy, but some of us will not remain silent and let our children suffer. No one can stop us from contributing to help our kids,” he emphasized.
