Finance Minister sits with Food and Beverage Association of Ghana to help translate Cedi appreciation into tangible relief
Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson sits with the leadership of Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG) on Thursday, May 8, 2025, to help translate the Cedi appreciation into tangible relief for Ghanaians.
According to the Finance Minister, he had a frank and productive conversation about the economy, food pricing, and how they can collectively ease the burden on the Ghanaian people at the meeting.
He disclosed that he took the opportunity to assure them (FABAG) that the recent appreciation of the cedi and the stability Ghana is witnessing in the economy is not a temporary or knee-jerk reaction.
“I took the opportunity to assure them that the recent appreciation of the cedi and the stability we are witnessing in the economy is not a temporary or knee-jerk reaction.”
Explaining the factors behind the recent Cedi appreciation, he stated, “It is the result of deliberate, well-thought-out planning and prudent economic management.”
“This stability is here to stay”, he assured.
Dr. Ato Forson also stated that their focus at the Ministry of Finance this year is moving beyond just achieving strong macro-economic indicators.
“Our focus at the Ministry of Finance is clear: we are moving beyond just achieving strong macro-economic indicators. It is now time for these gains to translate into real, tangible relief for our people: especially at the micro level.”
“I emphasized to FABAG that food prices, which had been unreasonably high, must start to fall drastically,” Finance Minister’s concern on the pricing of food items for the ordinary Ghanaian.
“Encouragingly, they confirmed that some reductions are already happening. But we need more.”
He also appealed to other traders, including GUTA, to follow FABAG’s lead and work together to pass these benefits on to Ghanaians.

“We are also addressing structural issues like port charges, levies, and smuggling because we understand how these factors impact prices.
As the FABAG President, Mr. John Awuni, rightly suggested — it’s time for a national campaign for price reduction.”
