Former MP Inusah Fuseini opens up on his son’s fraud conviction in US court

In a candid interview with Umaru Sanda on Citi TV’s Face to Face program (July 18), Inusah Fuseini, the former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, discussed the sentencing of his son, Abdul Inusah, by a US court on fraud charges.

With a heavy heart, the former MP spoke about the difficulty of facing this situation as a father who had raised his son with good values.

Inusah expressed his belief that his son, Abdul, had been ensnared by a sense of invincibility and foolishness when he decided to venture into a business while pursuing his education in the US.

He shared the struggles of trying to instill the importance of hard work and responsibility in his son, but acknowledged the generational differences that played a part in Abdul’s choices.

The former MP recounted how Abdul, as a student, registered a company without his consent and began buying cars for people, including some of his fellow students from Nigeria.

Unfortunately, one such transaction involved fraudulent funds, leading to Abdul’s offense and subsequent conviction.

Abdul Inusah, now 32 years old, was sentenced to a two-year jail term after being found guilty of participating in a scheme that defrauded individuals in multiple states through the use of false online personas.

Alongside the jail sentence, he was also ordered to pay $128,000 in restitution.

The trial, as detailed in a statement from the US Attorney’s Office Southern District of West Virginia, was decided by a federal jury after three days of court proceedings.

The statement revealed that Abdul Inusah was part of a conspiracy that targeted victims using deceptive personas through various online platforms, including email, text messaging, online dating websites, and social media.

Despite the conviction, Inusah Fuseini staunchly supports his son and believes in his innocence.

He described Abdul as a lively individual but asserted that he does not see his son as someone who would be interested in dishonest activities.

Inusah shared that Abdul has initiated an appeal of his sentence, indicating the family’s determination to seek a fair resolution to the legal proceedings.

As the legal process unfolds, the former minister of environment science and technology, also a private legal practitioner, remains by his son’s side, hopeful for a just outcome.
