Amidst the Akosombo Dam spillage consequences, the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) has advised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to declare a state of emergency in the region.
In a release dated 19th October, 2023, GAMLS expressed their deepest concerns about the effects of the was spilled from Akosombo dam which has found its way into both the Volta and Eastern Region.
GAMLS addressed the medical repercussions and suggested a way out saying the government should consider declaring a state of emergency in the affected region.
“We call on government to declare a state of emergency in the affected region.
By declaring a state of emergency, the government can mobilize resources, coordinate efforts, and allocate
funds to effectively respond to the crisis.
“This would enable the prompt implementation of emergency measures, including the provision of clean drinking water, medical supplies, and support for agriculture and fishing industries.”
Active and long-term solutions must be devised through collaboration in order to address these issues to the core.
