GAMLS confirms the demise of a medical laboratory professional due to covid-19

The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) with heavy heart announces that one of its professionals has passed on to glory on Monday 22nd June 2020. The cause of death was COVID-19 and he will be buried on 25″ June 2020 in Kumasi.

The Medical Laboratory Professional Amankwa John was rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) emergency unit on Friday, 19th June 2020 after having trouble in breathing.

Amankwa John was with weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital and a member with the Greater Accra Branch of the Professional Body. He was very much involved in sample collection for COVD-19 testing from the enhanced contact tracing in Accra from March 2020 and a hardworking professional in the said hospital.

He left behind a family with three beautiful children including a 2-month old baby. Our hearts are with the family of the gallant professional. It is sad that with the restrictions, only 15 people could be part of the urgent burial as the protocols require.

Sad to depart to glory from the very pandemic you devoted to fight. To the wife and children, and his parents, he was a soldier who fought for his nation at the time of a war against a pandemic. Rest in Peace our dear colleague
