Ghana Health Service temporarily suspends Medical Director of Winneba Trauma Hospital after death of abandoned patient
Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye (Director-General of Ghana Health Service) issued a signed letter dated June 14, 2024 indicating that the Ghana Health Service has temporarily suspended a Medical Director of Winneba Trauma Hospital after death of abandoned patient in a bush.
According to the releases, the Service has formed an independent committee to investigate the whole issue. Also, it was stated that “To ensure credibility and unfettered access to all relevant information, the Medical Director has temporary been relieved of his post pending the outcome of the investigation.”

UPDATE ON THE REPORTED CASE OF A PATIENT ALLEGEDLY ABANDONED IN A BUSH AT GOMOA OJOBI BY THE TRAUMA AND SPECIALIST HOSPITAL, WINNEBA.
I refer to the above case which was reported in the media two days ago and wish to provide you with the following updates:
i. An emergency meeting was held today Friday 14th June, 2024 at the Ghana Health Service Headquarters with the Medical Director of the Hospital who confirmed the occurrence of the event reported in the various media outlets except the surrounding facts which appeared different from what was reported.
ii. Consequently, a committee has been constituted to conduct independent enquiry into the matter to enable the Service take appropriate action. The Committee, whose terms of reference are as provided in the attached sheet, is made up of the following officers:
1. The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Service
2. Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon from the Ridge Hospital
3. Representative from the Ministry of Health
4. Representative from the Social Welfare Department, and
5. A senior Nurse Manager
iii. To ensure credibility and unfettered access to all relevant information, the Medical Director has temporary been relieved of his post pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Service wishes to assure your good office that appropriate action will be taken at the end of the enquiry to ensure that any persons connected with the unfortunate incident are brought to book.

This is the same as the Police investigating itself…..and ends up protecting its image…..with doctored reports that always exenorate them. There should be more non-medical persons on the committee.
