President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says, the Republic of Ghana is the first country to receive the Coronavirus pandemic vaccine in the world from the COVAX Facility

Addressing the Nation on his 24th update on measures taken against spread of Coronavirus, the president said, the hard work and determination of his govermment led to the deployment of the first consignment of the Covid-19 vaccine into Ghana.

“I indicated in Update No. 23 that the earliest vaccine would be in the country by March. However, by dint of hard work and sheer determination, Government was able to secure the first batch of vaccine doses in February, a month ahead of schedule. We are the first country in the world to be recipients of vaccines from the COVAX Facility, and I want to express my appreciation to members of the COVID-19 Taskforce, which I chair, and to officials of the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service for this commendable feat.” President Akufo-Addo Addo said.

On Wednesday, 24th February, 2021, the Govermment of Ghana has received a total of 600,000 Coronavirus vaccines at the Kotoka International Airport to vaccinate Ghanaian citizens againat the covid-19.

An Emirates Boeing 777-300ER touched down at the Kotoka International Airport with 600,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines which was received by the Minister Designate for Health Kwaku Agyeman Manu.

Citizens are therefore encouraged to avail themselves for the vaccine in order to help curb the Covid-19 situation in the country.
