GNPC Commissions completed projects in Ashanti region 

Pursuant to the policy direction of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to invest a sufficient amount of its share of the oil revenue into CSR projects to mitigate the issues encountered by people in deprived communities, the body corporate amplified its provision of social amenities in the Ashanti region. The national oil company handed over completed projects in the Adansi Asokwa district and Asokwa Municipal assemblies.

A contingent from GNPC Foundation led by the Executive Director, Dr Dominic Kwesi Eduah perfected the commissioning task yesterday, October 5, 2023. GNPC is desirous of making all the 16 regions of Ghana benefit from the proceeds of the oil exploration.

The GNPC Project Commissioning Train first landed at Dasubimadwene in the Adansi-Asokwa district where a 3-unit classroom block was gifted to Dasubimadwene D/A Basic School after a short ceremony.

The District Coordinating Director, Ebenezer Ntow Ayisi who represented the District Chief Executive, charged the community to own the facility and preserve it. He further urged the students to study hard to improve upon their results.

Nana Mensah Tawiah who stood in for the Chief of the area, thanked GNPC for the intervention and urged parents to bring their children to school. He promised to ensure proper care of the facility and appealed to the teachers to impart relevant knowledge in the educands to produce professionals such as Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Accountants, among others. The headteacher of the school, Augustine Kyei expressed gratitude to GNPC and promised that his dedicated staff will deliver to exceed expectation.

Other venerable personalities who graced the occasion are the Presiding member for the assembly, Hon Augustine Adomako, Assembly member for Ansa Electoral area, Hon Victor Sena, School Improvement Support Officer (SISO), Emmanuel Osei Mensah, inter alia.

Another similar event took place at Asokwa D/A Basic School also in the Adansi district where a 6-unit classroom block was handed to the school. Queenmother of Asokwa, Nana Abuwaa Owusua who received the facility on behalf of the school stated that, this edifice donated by GNPC is unique and one of a kind, hence, will go a long way to improve teaching and learning. On her part, the headmistress of the school, Elizabeth Akua Manu boasted that she is excited to have the best school building in the district and promised to take good care of it for decades.

In Kumasi, a 12-seater sanitary facility was handed to the people of Atonsu Bokuro in the Asokwa Municipal Assembly. The chief of the area, Nana Yaw Adarkwa Yiadom Gu-Boafo II who received the facility on behalf of his subjects, praised GNPC for the kind gesture.

The apogee of the whole exercise was at Kumasi High School where a fully furnished 6-unit classroom block was handed over to the school, the staff and students were overwhelmingly happy to have that state-of-the-art structure. The headmaster of the school, Benjamin Tawiah Twum was of full of praiseworthy for GNPC for coming to their aid. He stated that the school is in transition from double track system to a single-track system, thus the facility will be of immense contribution.

Addressing the media after the whole exercise, GNPC Foundation’s Executive Director, Dr Dominic Kwesi Eduah who represented the Chief Executive, Opoku Ahweneeh-Danquah on the occasion used the platform to enumerate some social interventions done by GNPC in the Ashanti region which includes but not limited to the construction of 28 classroom blocks, construction of 12 sanitary facilities, construction of 6 Astro Turfs, construction of two 160-bed dormitory facilities, construction of 2 science laboratories, over 400 artisans who have benefited from GNPC artisans programme, many students on the scholarship scheme, among others.
