Government announces use of GAF’s led “Operation Halt” to combat illegal small-scale mining activities
The Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, in an official release, announced that the government has concluded on taking further action to tackle illegal mining activities in the country.
This official publication was made on October 9, 2024, and signed by the Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar.
According to the release, the Hon. Minister stated in clear terms that “Government in its continued efforts to clamp down on the long-standing menace of Illegal Small-Scale Mining, has concluded operational measures to intensify the ongoing “Operation Halt” which is led by the Ghana Armed forces, to rid our river bodies of all forms of mining activities.”
Adding, she stated how the operation would be carried out in order to bring a total halt to the menace affecting the country. “This phase of the operation will be done in conjunction with the Small-Scale Miners Association of Ghana.”
“Government reasserts that river bodies and forest reserves remain red zones.”
She went on further to that the government is committed to the fight against illegal small-scale mining and calls on all stakeholders to join the fight.
