Gov’t budgets $1.2m for contact tracers, $530k for Ministers but $0 for scientists testing COVID-19 – Bright Simon

A Ghanaian Social Innovator, an entrepreneur, a writer, the founder and president of mPedigree and the Vice President of IMANI Africa Mr. Bright Simon in a twitter post sighted by Coverghana.com.gh disclosed that, the Republic of Ghana under the Presidency of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has budgeted $1.2million for one-thousand (1,000) Coronavirus pandemic contact tracers in Ghana but has failed to include scientists/health workers/ laboratory scientists who are having direct contact with blood samples of the Coronavirus patients.

According to him, Ghana ended up training 900. 600 dropped out due to challenges. He added that, the $25 allowances per day for the trainees is becoming erratic. “Ghana budgeted $1.2m for 1000 contact tracers. It ended up training 900. 600 dropped out due to grievances. Their $25/day allowance is becoming erratic.” He told.

Mr. Bright Simon also said, government has budgeted $530,000 for all Ministers and Members of Parliament for “oversight”. But rather unfortunate that, they have budgeted zero US dollar for health workers who are seriously engaged in collecting samples and testing of Coronavirus. “$530k was budgeted for Ministers & parliamentarians for “oversight”. $0 was budgeted for the science folks doing the testing!” He further added.
