Guinness World Records explains why Afua Asantewaa was disqualified for her Sing-A-Thon

Guinness World Records (GWR) has finally explained the reason behind disqualifying Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum for her Sing-A-Thon attempt as an individual in December 2023.
According to the GWR, Afua’s disqualification was “due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met” which they assert is “a standard rule across all of our [GWR] longest marathon records.”
This explanation by the GWR was given in response to an email by the Ghana Business News questioning why Afua Asantewaa was disqualified.
According to a report from the Ghana Business News, it was indicated that they wrote to ask “Have you reached a verdict? If you have. What verdict did you reach? And have you communicated your decision to Aduonum?”

The spokesperson of the GWR replied by saying “Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the Longest Singing Marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.”
The main reason for disqualifying Afua’s longest singing marathon attempt by an individual according to the response given by a spokesperson of GWR Ghana Business News.
“This was due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met. These rules are standard across all of our ‘longest marathon’ records. We’ve seen how inspirational Afua’s attempt has been for her fans and we wish her the best of luck with any future record attempts.”
Afua Asantewaa finished the longest singing marathon as an individual at 126 hours and 52 minutes on December 29, 2023. A record targeting to break the current record of Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in 2012.
After the GWR official publication for disqualifying Afua, she made a Facebook post on her official handle saying “The news of the outcome of my Sing-a-thon attempt came few minutes as I was preparing to host a gala dinner and the launch of the Lebanese Scholarship Alumni Network attended by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I would announce my next line of action in few days. Thank you all for your love and support.”
Despite making December 2023 a non-forgettable memory, it is the wish of many to see GWR declaring the Marathon of Afua as qualified and rightfully qualified for the certificate.
In all, Afua is a winner. She won the hearts of many and confirmed that she could do whatever she put her mind to without validation.
