Betty Sandhoff was born in Berea, Ohio, and attended Berea High School. She began acting in Cleveland area theatrical performances when she was 14 years old. In the early 1970s, she came west to continue her acting career, and she secured a role opposite Jon Voight in a touring production of A Streetcar Named Desire.
Parady began her television career as a guest star on Mannix, Bearcats!, and The Waltons. Hersha was considered for the role of Caroline Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie, but Karen Grassle beat her out. Later, in the 1976 episode “Journey in the Spring,” Paraday portrayed Charles’ sister-in-law, Eliza Anne Ingalls.
In 1977, she was cast as Alice Garvey in Little House on the Prairie, a position she held until 1980, when her character was killed in a fire set by Albert Ingalls. She made only a few television appearances after Little House on the Prairie, including Kenan & Kel.
