Soldier accidentally shoots himself near Michel Camp

In a deeply unfortunate incident, a soldier from the 5th Infantry Battalion lost his life in what is believed to be an accidental shooting at the Base Ammunition Depot (BAD) near Michel Camp.
Private (Pte) Bayou Roger, a dedicated member of the Southern Command, was on official duty when the incident occurred on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
According to preliminary investigative reports released by the Ghana Armed Forces, Pte Bayou was seated on his bed, awaiting his turn to relieve his colleague at a duty post at 0800 hours.
Tragically, his rifle discharged unexpectedly, striking him under the chin and resulting in his immediate and untimely death.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) expressed their deep sorrow over the incident and extended their condolences to the family and loved ones of Pte Bayou.
The GAF also assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
As part of the investigative process, the body of Pte Bayou has been respectfully deposited at the 37 Military Hospital mortuary.
