Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin appeals for non-politicization of Security Agencies

Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu in the Central Region, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged Ghanaians to refrain from associating security agencies, teachers, and public servants with political party affiliations.

During a delegate’s conference in Effutu Ateitu, where he was officially declared the NPP Parliamentary candidate for the upcoming December 7 election, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the need to allow these institutions to operate independently without the influence of partisan politics. He expressed concerns over recent incidents where party members criticized and called for the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, due to disagreements on security matters. Afenyo-Markin deemed such actions inappropriate and advocated for constructive criticism instead of demanding transfers or dismissals.

Highlighting the detrimental effects of politicizing national issues, the MP called for tolerance and collaboration among citizens, even when they hold differing views. Afenyo-Markin emphasized that parliamentarians should not be perceived as adversaries, contrary to media portrayals, as they work together harmoniously.

He emphasized the NPP’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunities based on merit, regardless of religion or ethnicity, exemplified by the party’s selection process for the flag bearer.

Closing his speech, Afenyo-Markin pledged to work tirelessly alongside the NPP’s flag bearer day and night to secure victory and break the two-term limit for the party’s governance.
