Member of Parliament for Central Tongu Constituency Honourable Alexander Gabby Hottordze ‘restores’ sight for a 6-month-old baby with Congenital Bilateral Cataract.

The six-month old baby was a proud beneficiary of the second day free eye surgery sponsored by the Member of Parliament.

The eye surgery of the baby was carried out by specialists and well-trained doctors from Friends Eye Centre and Lifetime Wells Vision supported by doctors at the Adidome District Hospital on Tuesday, 23rd August, 2022.

The 23-year-old mother of the baby madam Jennifer Alornyeku who spoke to the Project Coordinator Mr. Kofi Lawson before the surgery said, she is hopeful the baby will get his sight.

Godslove Amenuveve was born on 8th February, 2022 at the Adidome District Hospital. According to Jennifer Alornyeku, her baby was born with Congenital Bilateral Cataract. This she said was identified by her uncle few months after the baby was born.

Meanwhile, the Congenital Bilateral Cataract condition was finally confirmed by specialists from Friends Eye Centre and Lifetime Wells Vision during eye screening organized from 22nd July, 2022 to 25th July, 2022 in the District.

Speaking to the Project Coordinator Mr. Kofi Lawson, he said, the screening exercises were organized in five (5) different zones in the Central Tongu District.

He added that, so far, about 85 successful surgeries have been done for day one and two in Central Tongu.

Earlier, 1,815 people have participated in the eye screening with 1,653 medications and 599 eye glasses being issued to individuals with mild cases.

According to Hon. Alexander Gabby Hottordze, 316 people have been booked for the ongoing free eye surgery sponsored by him.

The four days surgery which commenced on Monday, 22nd August, 2022 will end on Thursday, 25th August, 2022 at the Adidome District Hospital.

Mr. Kofi Lawson again appealed to to the people to do regular eye check in accredited eye clinics to prevent avoidable blindness.

The free eye screening and surgery is organized by Hon. Alexander Gabby Hottordze in partnership with Life Wells Vision an International NGO.
