Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome has sponsored free Breast Cancer Screening for his constituents in the South Tongu Constituency.
The MP organized the Breast Cancer Screening in collaboration with the South Tongu District Health Directorate led by madam Mavis Agumeh at the Dabala Health Centre (Dabala Polyclinic) on Monday, 10th October, 2022 alongside the commissioning of the medical laboratory to mark the Breast Cancer Awareness month in his constituency.
The screening which was done at the newly commissioned medical laboratory facility at the Dabala Health Centre saw a number of people in attendance. The exercise was carried out by health workers from Sogakope District Hospital and Dabala Health Centre.
The Lawmaker supplied the following materials among many to support the free Breast Cancer Screening;
1. Blood pressure apparatus (4)
2. Stethoscope (4)
3. Glucometre with 50 Glucometre strips
4. Hemoglobinometer (1) with 200 Hemoglobinometer strips
5. HIV test kits among other supports.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Woyome said, there is a need to frequently undergo Breast Cancer screening to treat any case detected at its early stage, since treatment is very expensive.
He used the opportunity to encourage everyone especially females to maintain healthy breast by observing the basic principles of keeping the breast safe and healthy.
Educating the people during the programme, madam Miriam Azigo – a health worker at the Sogakope District Hospital encouraged women to get screened in order to have a chance of winning the fight against Breast Cancer.
She appealed to everyone to join the fight, working together, to make a difference and rise to the challenge of finding a cure against Breast Cancer.
According to Miriam Azigo, Breast Cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer. This disease has become a major problem across the world including Ghana. It is one of the treatable forms of cancer if diagnosed early.
She echoed that, October is the Breast Cancer Awareness Month and everyone must be involved in finding a lasting solution to it.
Miriam Azigo again asked individuals who may not have the opportunity to participate in the MP’s free Breast Cancer Screening exercise to visit the Sogakope District Hospital to be screened.
Mr. Bright Deku – the Physician Assistant of Dabala Health Centre is happy about the MP’s interventions towards the facility.
Speaking to Coverghana.com.gh in an earlier interview, he said, the medical laboratory commissioned at Dabala Health Centre will serve a positive purpose in the Dabala township and its adjoining communities. He appealed to the people to patronize the health facility to the benefit of their health.
