Member of Parliament for South Tongu cum Ranking Member on Youth, Sports and Culture Committee Hon. Wisdom Kobena Mensah Woyome supports eye screening for a total of 3,605 people in South Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region.

The two (2) phases of eye screening exercise sponsored by the South Tongu Member of Parliament in partnership with Life Wells Vision and the Friends of the Eye witnessed massive turnout of people.

1,697 people were screened during phase one exercise while the second phase of the screening covers 1,908 people across four different zones in the District making a total of 3,605.

Also, 1,135 medicated eye glasses were supplied to clients aside 748 individuals who were booked for critical surgeries.

The 6-day of phase two eye surgeries exercise which started on Monday 15th August, 2022 ended on Saturday, 20th August, 2022.

Speaking to Coverghana.com.gh, the MP said, the people with eye problems were selected during the screening conducted by Life Wells Vision and Friends of the Eye.

The first screening and surgeries happened in September and October, 2021 while the second screening and surgeries took place in July and August, 2022 respectively.

He clarifies that, the phase one surgery occured at the Sogakope District Hospital from Monday, 27th September, 2021 to Friday, 1st October, 2021.

Well trained and volunteer eye specialists/professional doctors were deployed from the Life Wells Vision and the Friends of the Eye, Tamale, assisted by doctors and nurses at the Sogakope District Hospital to carry out the surgeries.

Coverghana.com.gh can report that, some individuals who were partially and totally blind were able to see after the surgery.

In a visit to the Sogakope District Hospital to monitor the cataract surgeries Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome said, the purpose of the Free Eye Screening and surgeries is to minimize blindness among his constituents through treatment, issuance of glasses at subsidized cost borne by  his office and other partners.

He disclosed that, the cost of all treatment is borne by Life Wells Vision, in Collaboration with Friends of the Eye and his office as a Member of Parliament

The beneficiaries of the exercise expressed joy and satisfaction to the MP for his continued kindness and support.
