The third Quiz Mistress of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann has disclosed that, she has received many death threats following the successful end of this year’s contests.
The National Science and Maths Quiz which started somewhere in 1993, has received massive recognition and support from Ghanaians especially those in academic.
At the recently ended 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) which took place in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology saw three schools at the Grand Finale on 26th November,2021. The three schools were; Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Keta Senior High Technical School and Prempeh College.
Professor Elsie A.B. Effah Kaufmann who took over from Eureka Emefa Adomako, the second Quiz Mistress after Marian Ewuramu Addy the first Quiz Mistress has started receiving death threats from some unknown group of people in her emails and other social media platforms after Prempeh College won the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) competition on Friday, 26th November, 2021.
In an interview with the Quiz Mistress together with the winners of the NSMQ on radio, Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann said, she has started receiving death threats from some unknown group of people.
According to her, there are rules governing the National Science and Maths Quiz which a lot of people are not aware of during the interview.
She has made it clear on the show that anytime there’s an issue with a school, the issue is immediately addressed on stage not after the competition.
She was making reference to what happened on Friday when the three schools were battling with the bragging rights during the problem of the day segment of the quiz competition where Prempeh College was given 15 extra seconds of time to finish up their work when their electronic screen locked down.
This, a lot of people watching the programme thought is unfair to the remaining schools.
Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann explained that, going forward, the National Science and Maths Quiz Mistress should be replaced with a machine to avoid all these death threats.
The interviewer added by saying this will not make the quiz competition interesting if that’s done.
The 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz finals was so special because Keta SHTS for the first time made it to the finals.
This made this year’s competition special and majority of Ghanaians were solidly behind KETASCO to win the trophy.
