” I am truly sorry” – Ken Ofori-Atta apologize to Ghanaians for economic hardship

Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta who is the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Ghana is facing a censure motion after the Minority made seven allegations against him and demanded he be removed from office.

Following the request for the removal of Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta from office through a vote of censure, he has been given an opportunity to defend himself before a committee set to on the allegations leveled against him.

Speaking in his opening remarks, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta apologized to Ghanaians for the hardships the citizens are currently going through.

9. Co-chairs, let me use this opportunity to say to the Ghanaian people what I believe, with courage, every Finance Minister around the world may wish to say to his people now: I am truly sorry. When we set out so purposefully between 2017 and the early parts of 2020, we never imagined that a global pandemic such as Covid, with its prolonged economic fallout, would inflict such pain and suffering upon the Ghanaian people. The shock to our system has been hard and the impact on our livelihoods severe. But, we have not been resting on our oars. We continue to work to keep the lights on, to avoid the queues at our filling stations, our classrooms full, our hospitals and dispensaries mostly stocked with medicines, continue to pay salaries and our roads being built and fixed.
