I don’t fear going to jail at all — NDC MP James Gyakye Quayson

Embattled Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency, James Gyakye Quayson, has stated that he is not afraid to go to prison.

Speaking in an interview on Citi TV James Gyakye stated his firm belief that he will be exonerated from all accusations of which he is being tried at the court on a daily basis.

Hon. James Gyakye accused the Government of Ghana led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of interfering in his daily trial.

When questioned about the possibility of him being jailed if found guilty, the law maker said “No, why should I? I believe in the justice system. The fundamental thing about any judicial matter is that person intended to commit that crime. Did he plan it, I have not planned anything of such.”

“My strongest conviction is that this is just a matter of time. When you believe you have done the right thing, you shouldn’t be afraid. I trust the court will deliver a very positive verdict. I trust my lawyers, I trust the conscience of the people,” he added

BACKGROUND 

James Gyakye Quayson is currently being prosecuted for being a citizen of Canada as of the time he was elected the member of Parliament for the Assin North Constituency.

Mr. James Gyakye Quayson has since pleaded not guilty to five counts of forgery of passport or travel certificate, knowingly making a false statutory declaration, perjury, and false declaration for office.
