I prefer to die than live in Ghana if LGBTQI is legalised – Bagbin

Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament in Ghana, has expressed unwavering support for the controversial anti-gay bill currently under consideration.

Speaker Bagbin’s resolute statement confirms his conviction that the bill will be passed during the ongoing parliamentary session.

Furthermore, he revealed that some Members of Parliament (MPs) have embarked on fact-finding missions across Europe and the Americas, endeavoring to gather diverse perspectives before its implementation.

Emphatically distancing himself from any generation that would contemplate legalizing homosexual activities, Speaker Bagbin declared that he would prefer to sacrifice his life rather than witness such a development.

He staunchly believes that the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill must be enacted to protect Ghana’s social fabric and cultural values.

Initially proposed by a bipartisan group of eight MPs, representing both the Majority and Minority caucuses, the bill is presently in the deliberation phase within Parliament.

Sam Nartey George, the MP for Ningo-Prampram and an Elder at Perez Chapel International, has been leading the efforts to secure its passage.

During an interaction with journalists in Tamale over the weekend, Speaker Bagbin conveyed his observations on the repercussions faced by Western countries, which have championed the rights of homosexuals.

He noted a declining indigenous population in several European nations as a consequence of the prevalence of gay and lesbian relationships. In this context, he emphasized the need for Ghana to take decisive action to prevent a similar trajectory.

“The sooner Ghana puts an end to these activities, the better it will be for all of us,” Speaker Bagbin asserted.

Refusing to be complicit in what he perceives as a threat to Ghana’s future, he passionately stated, “If you all decide to engage in such practices, count me out of Ghana. I would rather join my Maker than live in a world where such actions prevail. As a devout Catholic and pro-life advocate, I cannot support any action that would contribute to the end of the world. According to God, the world is eternal until His return.”

Speaker Bagbin expressed his determination to ensure the passage of the anti-gay bill during his tenure as Speaker, underscoring the significance of this legislation in safeguarding Ghanaian values and protecting future generations.

As the parliamentary discussions on the bill continue, the nation awaits the outcome of this contentious issue, cognizant of the profound impact it could have on the social fabric and values of Ghanaian society.
