Interior Minister announces date to observe Public holiday, 2024 Eid-ul-Adha

The Ministry of Interior, Henry Quartey has announced that the nation will observe a public holiday to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha.
In an official statement signed by the Minister for Interior, it was stated that the Muslims on Sunday, 16th June, 2024 will mark Eid-ul-Adha which is a statutory public holiday.

However, due to the fact that the holiday falls on a Sunday, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has declared Monday, 17th June, 2024, as an additional public holiday.
This declaration is in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601). The Minister urges all citizens to observe the holiday accordingly, and wishes everyone a peaceful and joyous celebration.
The announcement is a welcome relief for many Ghanaians who were expecting a long weekend to celebrate the important Islamic holiday. Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice”, is a significant religious occasion celebrated by Muslims worldwide.
With this declaration, all government offices, schools, and businesses are expected to remain closed on Monday, 17th June, 2024, to allow citizens to fully participate in the celebrations.
