James Gyakye Quayson is a politician from Ghana who won the seat of Member of Parliament for the Assin North constituency in the 2020 General Elections. However, a dispute over Ghana’s constitution’s Article 92, Clause 2a, which forbids anybody with allegiance to a country other than Ghana from serving as a member of parliament, led to a legal challenge of his eligibility for office.

The 2020 parliamentary election in the Assin North seat was declared invalid on July 28, 2021, by the Cape Coast High Court, which was chaired by Justice Kwasi Boakye. The court cited the aforementioned constitutional violation as the reason for its decision. James Gyakye Quayson was however re-elected to his position following a by-election.

Prior to starting his political career, James Gyakye Quayson had worked as a District Manager for the City of Toronto Employment and Social Services from 2020. He has held administrative and managerial positions in the fields of community development and social services. He also has expertise as a framer, further demonstrating his range of abilities.
