John Mahama discloses an estimated monthly salary for Assembly Members

The Former President of Ghana His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has disclosed an estimated monthly salary for Assembly Members.

The Leader and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress who commenced his campaign tour to the Volta and Oti Regions yesterday 17th August, 2020 at the North Tongu Constituency revealed an estimated amount of one thousand cedis (GH¢1,000) for each Assembly member when elected into office as president in the upcoming December 2020 polls.

Interacting with the people of Mepe in the North Tongu Constituency, John Dramani Mahama said, “I did the mathematics; elected assembly members are 5,500. If we give each of them GHS1,000 a month, that is GHS66 million a year”.

According to Mr. Mahama, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo spent about GH¢69 million in nine months in 2019 for just a presidential travel. He further said, that, money alone could be used to pay Assembly members when is elected into office again as president. “The President, in 2019, nine months, when they audited the accounts of the presidency, presidential travel alone was GHS69 million. Am I lying?” he asked.

“So, if the President alone can travel [for] GHS69 million cedis in nine months, why can’t we find the money to pay assembly members?” he asked.
