A military coup appears to be underway in Mali
Information picked by Coverghana.com.gh suggests that, a suspected military coup appears to be underway in the capital of Mali.
Reports indicates that, there were several gunshots at an army base in Kati, a city just outside the capital, in the mist of an ongoing political crisis in Mali.
The situation remains unclear, but news of the gunshots quickly sparked fears of a possible coup attempt. According to DW editors, the leader of the coup could be Colonel Sadio Camara.
Reports disclosed that, several high-ranking politicians and officials have been kidnapped, including Finance Minister Abdoulaye Daffe and the National Guard’s chief of staff.
The national broadcaster, ORTM, has also been evacuated. According to ORTM employees, a group of possible coup-leaders should be on their way to the station.
