The former president John Dramani Mahama has made it known to the public as to why he stopped showing up for the Independence Day celebration.
The former president said in his speech recently that ”he just left Volta region and as at the time he was leaving, the Independence Day celebration for 2023 which was held at Adaklu in the Volta was about to start but he did not attend because it has been turned into “a party jamboree”.
According to the former president when he went to Temale for the celebration of Independence Day, government officials told the BBC to take the camera off him and also the people who were there were all supporters of NPP who were bused there by the party.
Not just that but they also gave him “a corner somewhere” to sit and it didn’t looked like an Independence Day celebration at all but rather a party celebration because it was full of NPP party flags and attire.
John Mahama also believes that, the independence day celebration is hijacked by the NPP party which should not be so, the reason being that, it is an independence celebration and should be held at the independence square for anyone who wants to be there to come and have a feel of the celebration.
He also made it known that Former President Kwame Nkrumah gained independence for Ghana and therefore he Mahama is an “Nkrumayist” and will attend and support independence celebrations anytime if only it is not turned into a party celebration.
