Confirmed total subjects for 2024 BECE
Ghana Education Service (GES) has finally confirmed the subjects to be seated for at the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The BECE is scheduled to take place from Monday, 8th July 2024, to Friday, 12th July 2024.
The following are the common core subjects pre-selected:
- English Language
- Social Studies
- Religious and Moral Education
- Mathematics
- Science
- Career Technology
- Creative Art and Design
- Computing
However, some subjects have been made optional.
Optional Subjects
Candidates would have to select ANY ONE of the following in addition to the core subjects:
- French
- Arabic
- Ghanaian language
Numerous concerns have been raised about making the Ghanaian Language optional. To many, is GES denying students the opportunity to learn the Ghanaian language? Why is the Ghanaian language optional? Great nations including China place value on the teaching of Chinese from an early age. What motivated GES to make such a decision?

Ghanaian Languages
There are eleven (11) Ghanaian Languages. The specific Ghanaian Language option being offered by the candidate should be selected from a dropdown list.
NOTE: Candidates would not be graded if they sit for subjects they were not registered for.
