Kpedze Paramount Chief calls for unity and development at annual Avatukpe Festival

Torgbe Atsridom V, the Paramount Chief and President of the Kpedze Traditional Council, has urged the people of Kpedze to embrace unity as a key to advancing the area’s development.

During the annual Avatukpe Festival, Torgbe Atsridom V emphasized the importance of solidarity, stating that progress cannot be achieved without it. The celebration, rich in cultural heritage, serves as a platform to raise awareness and gather resources for developmental projects that benefit the community.

The Avatukpe Festival, celebrated annually by the chiefs and people of the Kpedze Traditional Area, highlights the values and traditions that bind the community. In addition to celebrating the area’s heritage, the festival raises funds to support essential projects, including improvements in school infrastructure, electricity access, clean drinking water, and scholarships for brilliant but needy students. This year’s festival, themed “Traditional Festivals: A Tool for Unity and Development, the Role of Citizens,” focused on addressing the persistent water shortage that has challenged the area for many years.

Addressing attendees at the grand durbar marking the festival’s conclusion, Togbega Gabusu VII, the Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area, encouraged the people of Kpedze and all Ghanaians to remain vigilant, avoid political manipulation, and uphold peace throughout the upcoming December 7th general elections. He advised citizens to support Torgbe Atsridom V and work together toward sustainable development in Kpedze.

In his remarks, Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, appealed to the people of Kpedze to support the NDC and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, with the vision of creating better opportunities for Ghana’s youth. The call highlighted the role of leadership in fostering youth empowerment and economic growth.

Torgbe Atsridom V further advocated for government support in the form of the “One District, One Factory” initiative, urging authorities to consider establishing a factory in Kpedze to create jobs and spur economic development for the region’s youth. He reiterated the importance of unity among the people of Kpedze as they work to fulfill their shared vision for a prosperous community.

The Avatukpe Festival served not only as a celebration of tradition but also as a rallying call for cooperation, progress, and self-reliance, with the paramount chief encouraging his people to continue working together for a brighter future.
