Kusaug Traditional area inaugurates GUMGUUM to aid development
A group of people from different ethnic backgrounds within the Kusaug traditional area in Bawku have come together to launch a movement called GUMGUUM which will be an aid for development in the area.
GUMGUUM literally means “togetherness” in Kusasi. The movement is expected to be a major tool in uniting the people of the area.
The agenda of the association/movement is to help bring education and development to the area.
According to the leadership of the movement, most dwellers of the area especially women and children are vulnerable to some of the major challenges like low levels of education and development, and lack of peace and stability in the communities.
With the formation of the movement, GUMGUUM, it would help reduce some of them and address them in their minute ways before seeking helping hands from others.
The leadership of the movement added that the Bawku area has retrogressed in terms of development since 2021 due to the conflict in the area.
The conflict has made major developmental projects that were underway in the area have been halted due to the violence. The conflict has also caused the existing projects under work to be vacated.
Dr. Joseph Ayembilla, the President for the movement GUMGUUM in a statement said they are going to work hard to bring development to every part of the area and it would go down to benefit everyone devoid of ethnicity, religion, or background.
He also promised to bring everyone in the Kusaug area under one umbrella for peace and development.
