Lamar Joseph Odom is a former American professional basketball player. He was successful in the NBA while playing with the Los Angeles Lakers, winning championships in 2009 and 2010 and was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2011. Odom received the Parade national player of the year award while still in high school in 1997. He moved to the professional league after playing college basketball at the University of Rhode Island, where he won all-conference accolades.
In the 1999 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Clippers picked Lamar Odom as the fourth overall choice. Being selected for the NBA All-Rookie Team in his rookie season helped him stand out. During his four seasons with the Clippers, he did, however, face suspension twice for breaking the league’s anti-drug policy.
Prior to being traded to the Lakers, Odom joined the Miami Heat as a restricted free agent for the 2003–04 season. Before being moved to the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, he played seven successful seasons with the Lakers. Unfortunately, his career suffered after the exchange, and in 2012 he was exchanged once more for a Clippers player. In 2014, he also spent a brief time in Spain.
Odom had a career outside of athletics. He made an appearance on the reality television series Keeping Up with the Kardashians while they were married. The couple even had a reality television show of their own, Khloé & Lamar. Odom gained notoriety in 2015 after being discovered comatose and unconscious in a Nevada brothel. He decided to get help for his drug and alcohol addiction as a result of this occurrence.
