The District Chief Executive for North Tongu District Assembly Honourable Divine Osborn Kwadzo Fenu is calling on the people of North Tongu to put party colours aside and work jointly to develop the District.

According to the DCE, it is time to put aside partisan politics and work as one entity to develop the North Tongu District alleviate hardship.

Speaking at a durbar organized to welcome the British High Commissioner H.E Harriet Thompson to inspect the Juapong Textiles Limited, the DCE said, development is his topmost priority and he shall support the Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Chiefs and the people of the area to revamp and expand the Volta Star Textiles Limited ( VSTL) formerly known as Juapong Textiles Limited (JTL).

He explained that, the Company which was established by Dr. Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah in 1967 collapsed along the line in 2005 was revamped by former president John Agyekum Kuffour.

He believes that, the current state of the factory needs retooling to be able to produce at full capacity.

According to the Managing Director of Juapong Textiles Limited Mr. Jerome Dunyo, the company could produce twenty-one (21) million yards of graybaft annually at full capacity but it is currently producing only 5 million yards of graybaft.

It is in light of this, Divine Osborn Kwadzo Fenu appealed to the British High Commissioner to help bring investors to partner the Government in retooling the factory in order to create more jobs for the youth in the District.

He thanked the High Commissioner for passing through the District specifically the Volta Star Textiles Limited ( VSTL) as the first point of call, as she begins a two day tour of the Volta Region.

The DCE also used the opportunity to thank the Member of Parliament Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for his efforts by bringing the British High Commissioner to the factory to help in processes leading to revamping and expansion of the Volta Star Textiles Limited.

“We are grateful that, even before you pay a courtesy call on the landlord of the Region, the Volta Regional Minister, you decided to pass by North Tongu to take a look at the factory and help us get investors to revamp or retool the factory.”

“Many people in the District do not have jobs especially the youth. I therefore appeal to the British High Commissioner that, her visit should bring more investors not to only Juapong Textiles factory but to other areas of the District.”

He noted that, North Tongu has vast and fertile land for vegetable production, irrigation farming because the Volta Lake is near us.

“A lot of other valuable investment are abound in North Tongu. I am therefore calling all other investors to come on board to help us develop this District.”
