List of all Award Winners at the NSMQ 2022 Grand Finale
The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) is a yearly event that serves as a platform to showcase the intelligence and knowledge of high school students in Ghana. The 2022 edition of this prestigious competition was a thrilling spectacle filled with intense rivalry and heartwarming moments.
Here is the list of awards presented at the NSMQ 2022 Grand Finale:
The Championship Title
The coveted NSMQ trophy, along with a generous cash prize of seventy thousand Ghana cedis, was clinched by Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon. This substantial prize was distributed as 30,000 cedis for the school, 20,000 for the contestants, and 20,000 for the teachers.
First Runner-Up
Prempeh College, the first runner-up, received a total prize of 50,000 cedis. This amount was divided into 20,000 for the school, 15,000 for the team of contestants, and 15,000 for the teachers.
Kwaku Mensa-Bonsu Award for the Most Impressive Run
Instituted in 2018, this special award recognizes the exceptional performance of a “less-endowed school.” The deserving recipients of this award were the contestants of Assin State College, who received a cash prize of GH₵7,000. They embarked on their journey from the Regional Qualifiers and came very close to defeating Adisadel College in the Quarter-finals.
Jacob and Elizabeth Banful Memorial Award
Established by the Banful Family in memory of their parents, who were educators, this award was presented to the dedicated teachers of Assin State College. Their unwavering commitment earned them a cash prize of GH₵10,000.

Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu Award for the Most Outstanding Female Contestant
Ms. Afua Yedzene Emenyo Doe-Kiinnii of Mawuli School stood out as the most remarkable female contestant, securing a cash prize of GH₵5,000. This award was presented by Ms. Nana Akua Mensa-Bonsu on behalf of Her Lordship Prof. Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
Marian Ewurama Addy Award for the Best Team
Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School secured this award, which was initiated by Mr. Bubune Adih, the NSMQ 1999 Champion from Mfantsipim School, in 2015. They received a cash prize of GH₵5,000.
Newmont Ghana Golden Journey Award
Abetifi Presbyterian SHS was honored with the Newmont Ghana Golden Journey Award in recognition of their exceptional performance throughout the competition. Their remarkable journey included victories over several schools, culminating in a Quarter-final appearance and a cash prize of GH₵20,000.

Dano Inner Strength Award
Assin State College displayed incredible courage and resilience to reach the Quarter-finals, earning them the Dano Inner Strength Award. Their reward included GH₵5,000 worth of Dano Milk products.
Educational Experience at Zipline Academy
Contestants from Assin State College earned a unique four-week educational experience at Zipline Academy, where they received practical training on all of Zipline’s operations.
Goil Prize for the Most Decent and Exciting Cheering School
Adisadel College’s enthusiastic “jama” songs at the Grand Finale earned them the Goil Prize, which included fuel worth GH₵2,000.00.
AirtelTigo Prize for the Best Performing Lesser-Known School
Abetifi Presbyterian SHS proudly received the AirtelTigo Prize. This award included an AirtelTigo Business Router with FlexiNet Data for five months, along with AirtelTigo MiFis with 10GB data for each contestant.
Scholarships
The NSMQ 2022 journey concluded with scholarships awarded to deserving students from participating schools. One noteworthy scholarship was the Academic City University College Presidential Scholarship, initially offered to Austin Afutu of Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School but later accepted by Benjamin Eyram Degbey of St. James Seminary SHS. This prestigious scholarship, valued at $40,000, covers tuition, accommodation, feeding, a laptop, and a monthly stipend.
NSMQ 2022 was not just a celebration of academic excellence; it was a testament to the determination and talent of students from various schools across Ghana.
