The 2020 Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has apparently called for a second election between him (John Dramani Mahama of NDC) and the 1st Respondent (The Electoral Commission of Ghana).
It is unclear why the the Petitioner should request for a second election between him and the Electoral Commission (EC), meanwhile, the Electoral Commission is the mandated body to conduct election between or among political parties.
In the petition Mr. Mahama said, “An order of mandatory injunction directing the 1st Respondent to proceed to conduct a second election with Petitioner and 1st
Respondent as the candidates as required under Article 63(4) and (5) of the 1992 Constitution.”
The statement many believe was an error since there cannot be an election between Mr. John Dramani Mahama (Petitioner) of NDC and the 1st Respondent of the Electoral Commission.
Most Ghanaians who have reacted think the statement should rather be a second election with Petitioner (John Dramani Mahama of NDC) and 2nd respondent (Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of NPP).
In the Petition, the Petitioner said, “Jean Adukwei Mensa, Chairperson of 1st Respondent and the Returning Officer for the Presidential Elections held on 7
December 2020 is unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect whatsoever.”
Coverghana.com.gh will wait patiently for the legal team of the NDC’s Flagbearer to react to the supposed errors spotted in the final Petition documents.
