Meet Eshiet Abasiekeme: A 14-Year-old girl who beats 12,000 contestants to emerge winner of essay competition

In a remarkable display of intellectual prowess, 14-year-old Eshiet Abasiekeme has emerged victorious in the United Bank of Africa (UBA) Foundation National Essay Competition (NEC), surpassing 12,000 other contestants.

This prodigious pupil from Bright Stars Model Secondary School in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, has not only earned acclaim for her exceptional essay but has also been awarded a ₦2.5 million scholarship to pursue her studies at any African university of her choice.

The UBA Foundation annually organizes the National Essay Competition (NEC) for high school students across Nigeria, and Eshiet Abasiekeme’s triumph highlights the program’s commitment to fostering educational excellence.

The initiative has been a transformative force for a decade, providing tertiary education scholarships that significantly impact the lives of students and their communities.

Eshiet’s outstanding achievement was celebrated during a virtual event, where she expressed her gratitude to UBA and UBA Foundation.

Her scholarship includes a ₦2.5 million educational grant, along with continuous mentoring and support throughout her academic journey and beyond. This scholarship not only recognizes her current accomplishments but also serves as an investment in her future aspirations, particularly her dream of becoming a lawyer.

In addition to the scholarship, Eshiet, along with 11 other finalists, received brand new laptop computers. This thoughtful gesture aims to empower these young minds to navigate and compete in the ever-evolving world of technology, providing them with the necessary tools for success.
