Meet Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, first female Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCC
Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh is the first female Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

She, Professor Dora Edu-Buandoh is an educationist, a motivational speaker and a mentor to many young men and women. She was appointed the first female Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, in 2019 and she served a term which ended in December 2021.
Before then, she had served as the Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies; the Dean of the Faculty of Arts; the Head of the Department of English, and the Coordinator for the Communicative Skills Programme, all in the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. In her administrative positions, she enhanced the image of the University and brought innovation into all activities she initiated.
She also served as the Coordinator for UCC-Guilford College Study Abroad Programme and was the link for the UCC-University of Birmingham Exchange programme.
Over the years, Prof Edu-Buandoh, has shown great interest in the lives of the youth that she teaches and youth groups that she motivates and mentors, both in her church and in schools. She is a philanthropist and a keen supporter of female education. Her focus has been in supporting young female students financially to complete tertiary education and mentoring them to acquire leadership skills.
She holds a PhD from the University of Iowa, USA; an MPhil and a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Cape Coast, a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, a Teachers’ Certificate ‘A’ from Komenda Training College, and a Diploma in Education from University of Cape Coast. She was a participant in a DAAD-sponsored International Deans’ Course for Higher Education Management, the Galilee International Management Institute Diploma in Higher Education Management programme, and the King Baudouin Foundation United States (KBFUS) programme for grant sourcing and gifting, among others.
Prof. Dora is a Fulbright scholar, a member of the International Federation of University Women (UCC Chapter) and the University of Cape Coast Women Caucus. She has been a patroness of many youth organisations including the Girls and Boys Brigade; UCC What Do You Know Club; Association of Visually Challenged Students, UCC; Oda Secondary School Old Students Association, UCC Branch; Atlantic Hall Ladies Association, UCC and ARS, UCC Chapter.
Her sterling leadership skills contributed to her appointment as the Chair of the Article 71 Presidential Committee on Emoluments (Ghana) in 2016.
Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh Educational Background
Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh had her primary education at Essikadua Methodist Nursery, Salt Pond Methodist Primary B School, and the Tema Padmore Street Primary School.
She continued at Koforidua Methodist Girls School for her middle school education.
Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh attended her secondary school at Asanteman Secondary School in Kumasi for a year and moved to Oda Secondary School for her O’ Level Certificate.
She obtained her Teachers’ Certificate ‘A’ (Post Middle) at the Komenda Training College in 1986.

Further, she earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with an English major and a Diploma in Education at UCC in 1993.
Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh: Service, Experience, Promotion, Appointments
- Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh served as a Teaching Assistant and Senior Research Assistant at the Department of English from 1993 to 1997.
- She obtained her Master of Philosophy degree in English Language at UCC in 1999.
- She was appointed as Assistant Lecturer in 2000 and became a Lecturer in 2001.
- She was appointed as Coordinator for Communicative Skills Unit, UCC (2008-2010).
- Promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2008 and to Associate Professor in 2012.
- Served as Head of the Department of English from 2010 to 2012.
- Appointed her to serve as the Coordinator of the J.E. Atta Mills Library Project and also J.E. Atta Mills Commemorative Lectures in 2015.
- Appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 2012 to 2016.
- Served as the first female Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies from 2016 to 2018.
- Served as the Chairperson of the Presidential Committee on Emoluments of Article 71 Office Holders in Ghana.
- Appointed first female Pro Vice-Chancellor at UCC between 2019 and 2021.
- Promoted to professor of English in 2021.
Prof Dora Edu-Buandoh Ph.D Award
Prof Dora Edu-Buandoh was awarded a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy and Culture from the University of Iowa, USA 2006.

Prof Dora Edu-Buandoh Foundation
Prof Dora Edu-Buandoh has a foundation. She launched her foundation, Dora Edu-Buandoh Foundation to support equitable access to higher education and the advancement of young women in Ghana on 15th November 2022.
