Meet the first ever captain to Qualify Black Stars for World Cup

Stephen Leroy Appiah was the first ever captain, to qualify the national team (Black Stars of Ghana) to its first World Cup appearance.

The former player, who made 68 appearance and scored 17 goals, made his debut for Black Stars in 1996 when Ghana played Benin in a four nations tournament in Cotonou.

Stephen Appiah represented the Ghana National team at the youth, Olympic and senior levels on several occasions.

He was part of the squad that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup Championship tournament in 1995 after the team beat Brazil in the final to lift the trophy. Appiah was 14 as at then.
