Ministry of Education speaks on food shortage in Senior High Schools

The Ministry of Education has finally spoken on alleged food shortage in Senior High Schools in Ghana.

The Ministry of Education has denied reports of food shortage in some senior high schools (SHS), particularly in the Volta Region.

According to the Ministry of Education led by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, they noted with surprise news publications and media discussions which purport an imminent closure of some Senior High Schools due to shortage of food where specific references were made to some schools in the Volta Region.

The statement signed by the Ministry of Education’s spokesperson Mr. Kwesi Kwarteng said, the Ministry wishes to place on record that their checks reveal adequate supplies of food items have been made to the schools in question.

The Ministry however takes cognizance of recent disruptions within the food supply chain but assures parents and guardians that they have been addressed.

According to the Ministry, consequently, all Senior High Schools in the Country have received adequate supply of food items.

The Ministry of Education wishes to assure the public of its commitment and willingness in providing quality and timely supply of food to all Senior High Schools.

The Education Ministry has therefore refuted allegations of food shortage in Senior High Schools and entreat the public to disregard such reports.

The statement comes after some publications said, some schools in the Volta Region might be forced to close down due to the shortage of food supplies.
