The 2021 Metropolitan/Municipal/District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) Vetting Committee Reports to the office of the president has been leaked to the public domain.
The report intercepted by Coverghana.com.gh contained list of three shortlisted applicants from each District/Municipal/Metropolitan across the sixteen (16) administrative regions of Ghana.
Out of the three shortlisted applicants, the Committee has also recommended some individuals to the office of the President pending approval and nomination.
Ostensibly, the MMDCEs Committee Reports is said to have been mistakenly leaked by some of the National Executive Committee (NEC) members at NPP’s presser today to some journos to tie the hands of the president.
Barely a year since the MMDCEs Committee was constituted across the 16 regions for the preliminary vetting, the office of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo could not come out with list of any nomination for the smooth running of the local assemblies.
The situation is worrying as to why the report is still kept in the dark. The president couldn’t announce the nomination after the National Vetting Committee has forwarded the report to him.
But, explaining the delay in the nomination of the MMDCEs, the Director of Communication (DoC), at the presidency, Eugene Arhin while addressing members of the Presidential Press Corps at the maiden press briefing at the Jubilee House said “the President makes the point that currently there is no vacuum at the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies because the old MMDCEs are still in office and on a day to day basis going about their respective duties.”
According to him, “So as and when he decides to make the announcement which I believe should be soon, I believe through the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development that announcement will be made”
He, therefore, insisted “it is not hampering the works of the Assemblies at the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District levels so I dont think there should be any course for concern because work is still ongoing at the various MMDCE levels.”
But at the blind side of key personalities responsible for the list and nomination of MMDCEs, the report has been leaked by unknown person.
The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Dan Kwaku Botwe chaired the second vetting process. The Dan Botwe led committee has since submitted its report to the President who is the final determinant for consideration.
