MPs must cut off 10% – 15% pay to show solidarity with Ghanaians – Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu

The majority leader Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has beseeched all Members of Parliament to reason with him for a cut-off of their pay.

The majority leader said this due to the economy hardship the country is battling with currently.

The Honourable member suggested that, it would be ideal and helpful to the country if a cut-off of 10% and 15% is done to their pay. His submission was done just after the debate on the 2023 budget statement.

In a statement, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said, “Perhaps as members of parliament just as the executives have done may be could also even thou there are difficult periods on all of us, we could also utilize the opportunity and also show some example by sacrificing anything between 10 and 15% of our salaries to demonstrate to the fellow Ghanaians that we are with them in this difficult moment”.

Also, he suggested that, the government aside cutting off their pay can also do some adjustment in some projects, especially taking a critical look on some flashy projects.

He explained that, if some of the flashy projects are been reviewed very well it’s possible the country would get something out to help adjust the economy.
