The National Communications Authority (NCA) which is in charge of the introduction of the SIM registration has been sued at the Supreme Court over some punitive actions taken from September 5th 2022 to bar all outgoing calls for unregistered Sim Cards.
The plaintiff herein referred to as ‘The People’s Project’ describes the actions of the 1st Defendant, the NCA, to prevent and restrict unregistered SIMs from undertaking certain activities such as making outgoing calls when some citizens have still not received their Ghana card as unlawful and unconstitutional.
The plaintiff is seeking among other things that the defendants be ordered to refrain from taking any such actions against mobile subscribers until all citizenry issues on the Ghana Card have been resolved.
Again, the defendant should suspend all issues of SIM blocking until the time that the National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued Ghana Cards to every Ghanaian.
The Plaintiff further asks that, the court places an injunction on the scheduled date for SIM Cards blockage, 30th September until the final determination of the suit.
