On April 17, all unregistered SIM cards will be deleted from the database of telecommunication operators in Ghana, following a directive from the National Communications Authority (NCA).
The NCA has ordered the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications to ensure that all SIM cards that have not been re-registered with Ghana cards, in compliance with the March 31, 2023 deadline, be removed.
Furthermore, all SIM cards registered after the limit of 10 per individual should also be deactivated and removed from all databases. The telecom operators are also required to submit to the NCA the number of SIM cards that have been disconnected.
Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, Chief Executive of the Chamber, has stated his organization’s willingness to cooperate with the NCA in this exercise.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications “The regulator has given timelines, from the perspective of the regulator, these things have been happening previously. We will cooperate with the regulator,”.
