NDC Volta Regional Women’s Wing Organizes a Day Training for Constituency Women’s Organisers and Regional Women Working Committee

A day’s training workshop Organised for NDC Constituency Women’s Organisers and Regional Women working Committee by the Volta Regional Women’s Wing on Saturday, the 3rd of February, 2024 at Kiki’s Court, Hohoe on the theme: Power at all cost; The Pivotal Role of Women.

The workshop aimed to empower women and enhance their participation and leadership in politics and governance.

The Chairman for the occasion was the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Mawutor Agbavitor.

Many galllant men and women graced the day with their presence and contributions.

Several distinguished speakers and guests, including: Obuobia Darko Opoku, the Deputy Director of Communications,
Joyce Bawah Mongtari ESQ, former Deputy Minister for Transport and Spokesperson for former President John Mahama, Dzifa Tegah and Abigail Elorm Mensah, National Deputy Women Organizers of the NDC, Elikem Kotoko and Ako Gun Deputy National Organizer and Communication respectively of the NDC, Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, Director of logistics and protocol, Prof. Benedicta Ofosu-Mensah, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Cape Coast, Honourable Joycelyn Tetteh, the Member of Parliament for North Dayi constituency. Regional Executives, Women Organizers from the 18 constituencies in the Volta region, representatives from the wards in the Hohoe constituency among others.

The workshop tapped the rich knowledge of many prominent members of the party, who shared their rich experiences and equipped the women with relevant information to enable them perform their roles effectively in their constituencies.

Prof. Benedicta Ofosu-Mensah who traced the evolution and milestones of women’s involvement in politics and leadership highlighted the roles and contributions of Yaa Asantewa and analyzed the factors and barriers that affect the opportunities and outcomes of women in politics and leadership. She also discussed the initiatives and policies that have been implemented or proposed to promote and support women in politics and leadership. She asked the women to be up and doing in their circles for easy mobilisation.

Joyce Bawah Mongtari ESQ, who spoke on the topic: Communicating for Victory 2024, shared some personal and professional experiences and insights as a woman leader and politician, where she emphasized the importance of developing and demonstrating the skills and competencies that are essential for effective and ethical leadership in communication, negotiation, teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. She also suggested some practical and proven strategies that can help women overcome challenges and seize more opportunities.

Obuobia Darko Opoku, who outlined the goals of *Speaking with clarity* made it clear that choosing one’s words deliberately and making sure the message is easy to understand is a hallmark of a woman. With this, she urged the women to mobilize and organize women from diverse areas across their constituencies. As Women leaders it is important to choose their words carefully and also make their appearance and position speak for them to make those listening to them believe and understand the strength and focus of the NDC in their communities to ensure the victory of the NDC and its Presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

She also outlined some strategies that included activities and Programmes that will be implemented to empower and support women, such as fundraising, campaigning, voter education, monitoring, and evaluation, among others.

Also, the gathering provided a platform for the women to learn, share, network, and inspire each other and also enhanced the knowledge, skills, confidence, and motivation of the women to work in unity and do away with unhealthy competitions to participate and lead in politics and governance.

Some recommendations and suggestions for improvement and advancement of the women’s wing and the NDC as a whole were outlined by Hon. Esi Pomary, the Volta Regional Women’s Working committee chairperson. She charged the women to go and use the skills they were equipped with judiciously for victory 2024.

The Constituency Women’s Organizers expressed their gratitude to the Volta Regional Women’s Organizer, her deputies, and the Working Committee for organizing and hosting the workshop.
They were appreciative of the Sponsors and Facilitators for their support and contribution.

The women were also thankful to the Chairman, the Speakers, and all Invited Guests for their presence and input.

There was a call for action and commitment from the women to work hard and smart to achieve their vision and goals and that of the party and the nation at large.
